2020 Stamp Issues

Commemorative Issue "Brexit"

FM2020-01 Commemorative issue Brexit

On 2020.01.31, the United Kingdom finally left the European Union. After a transitional period which extends until the end of 2020, most political and economic connections between the EU and the UK will be cut. The commemorative issue was designed to document the strong allegiance of the F.M. to the European Union, and the expectations of the F.M. regarding the future of the United Kingdom - on the map the colours of Scotland and Northern Ireland are no more based on those of the "Union Jack". But as the current Corona crisis unfolds, as of March, the future developments are seen as highly unsure also in regards to the full implementation of Brexit.

Commemorative Issue "Musogradian Medals"

FM2020-02 Commemorative issue Musogradian Medals

Also on 2020.01.31, the Federated Micronations ended a commercial alliance with a corporate entity which had stood for almost 25 years. Three days later, on 2020.02.03, a new contract became the basis of a project into which the full strength of the Musogradian state and its allies were poured. Although still ongoing as of end of March, the project has changed character both due to the Corona crisis and the conflict with the level of hypernormalisation which was encountered, with its continuation now in question. As a memorial to the effort in its different phases, medals were issued and three commemorative stamps were issued. No.1: CW 1.00, displaying the "Glory" decoration for the MTBF volunteers. No.2: CW 1.00 displaying the "Defense" medal for the medical and other forces fighting against the Corona virus. No.3: CW 3.00 displaying the "Shoolscath" decoration for the Musogradian Army landing forces.

State Surcharge Issue "Corona Emergency"

FM2020-03 State Surcharge issue Corona Emergency

Like all other regions of the world, the Federated Micronations have been hit by the Corona Crisis and implemented a full lockdown, with only essential industries like postal services and stamp production being kept running. To fill up the FM Corona Emergency Funds which will support those who were hit hardest by the crisis, a series of four state surcharge stamps has been issued. Starting from April 8th, one (FM mail) or two (international mail) CW 0.50 surcharge stamps have to be applied to all mail. The stamps are assigned to the 4 states serviced by Posta tal Musograd, but may be used in all of them. They were printed in double sheets, combining the Musogradian / Balanda stamps and the Murwillian and Naquarnian stamps and resulting in two possible gutter pair combinations. As those are rare, they will be sold at a surcharge which will also be donated to the FM Corona Emergency Funds.

  • Date of Issue: 2020.04.08
  • Free perforation, matt paper
  • Values: CW 0.50 / 0.50 / 0.50 / 0.50

Commemorative Issue "May 8th"

FM2020-15 Commemorative Issue May 8th

May 8th is a traditional Musogradian holiday celebrating the revolutionary event of 1996.05.08. At the same time, it is an important day of remembrance, as on 1945.05.08, WW II ended with the capitulation of fascist Germany. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of this event, a stamp was issued which shows a view of the fence of the Ravensbrück concentration camp in northern Brandenburg, Germany, processed with AI technology. As somehow this stamp was overlooked at first when documenting the 2020 issues of PtM, it received the number FM202015 in spite of its date of issue.

  • Date of Issue: 2020.05.08
  • Free perforation, matt paper
  • Value: CW 2.00
  • Order No. FM202015 - 1 stamp (CW 2.00)

Commemorative Issue "Army Day"

FM2020-04 Commemorative issue Army Day

"Army Day", August 1st, has got a long tradition in Musograd. The first "Army Day" stamps were issued in 1989 and 1990. This year, Posta tal Musograd decided to take up that tradition again. The stamp shows the fighter plane "PA 411 Thylacine", for many years the mainstay of the Musogradian Air Force and other services in the Federation. The stamp was printed in small sheets consisting of 6 stamps, all with a border tab displaying the state flag of the Dershowo.

Minisheet "Lord Dershowo Anniversary"

FM2020-05 Minisheet Lord Dershowo Anniversary

Gen. F.M. Dershowo was the leader of the revolutionary forces during the Nationalist MTBF rising in early 2000. Leading the state in the informal role as "Lord Commander" after the victory of the Nationalists, he was fatally hurt in a gun cleaning accident on 2000.08.03. The State of Musograd was then renamed "Dershowo Musograd" in his honour, revitalising the old word "Dershowo" for "State". The miniature sheet shows a stylized portrait of Gen. Dershowo overlooking the Naquarnian Mountains, based on a photo taken in the days after the victory of the MTBF forces. The stamp is designated as an Air Mail issue.

  • Date of Issue: 2020.08.03
  • Free perforation, matt paper
  • Value: CW 5.00
  • Sold only in the Dershowo Musograd and the Balangrad Capital Territory
  • Order No. FM202005 - Miniature sheet (CW 5.00)

Minisheet "Childrens' Drawings"

FM2020-06 Minisheet Childrens Drawings

The minisheet displaying 6 childrens' drawings, titled "Spring", could be called the most delayed stamp issue of Posta tal Musograd, ever. Not only that it is issued in late Summer instead of in Spring - it originally was planned to be issued about 8 years ago, when the contest for which the drawings had been created took place. The postmaster apologizes to the artists for this. The winner of this contest, with a very clear majority, was the painting displayed on the CW 1.20 stamp.

  • Date of Issue: 2020.09.11
  • Fixed perforation, matt paper
  • Values: CW 0.45 / 0.60 / 0.70 / 0.80 / 1.00 / 1.20

Commemorative Issue "Michael Collins"

FM2020-07 Michael Collins

This stamp issue honours the Irish Independence leader Michael Collins (1890-1922) on his 130th anniversary. By proxy, also the Irish struggle for independence is honoured, with the Irish Free State Centennial celebrated this year. Michael Collins is an important historical personality whose biography contains many important political messages. He organized the violent struggle against the British occupation of Ireland, carefully escalating it to a point where the occupation became too costly to be continued. In a time where peaceful resistance is often crushed by massive surveillance and other means, it is important to look at history to predict future developments. The F.M. officially support an united Ireland which will be the obvious consequence of Brexit, hopefully to be gained by peaceful means.

  • Date of Issue: 2020.09.18
  • Free perforation, matt paper
  • Value: CW 1.30
  • Order No. FM202007 - single stamp (CW 1.30)

Commemorative Issue "Independence Day"

FM2020-08 30th Independence Day

On 2020.10.03, the 30th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of Musograd was celebrated. A Musogradian historian recently has pointed out that on 1965.10.03, exactly 25 years before the historic date, another important historic event had taken place, the treaty of Alte Ceccato. In that treaty, the northern-centered Musogradian Empire was joined by the Southern Alliance, extending over the present Naquarnian Republic and the City of Kosnice, in a way giving birth to the present Federated Micronations. This date has nearly been forgotten, overshadowed by later events and conflicts.

To celebrate this date, a set of three stamps and a miniature sheet have been issued. The stamps are based on the historic fresco of an Eagle from about 1440, located in the "Palazzo della Ragione" in the city of Padova in Italy, visited by a Musogradian delegation in 2019 and linked historically to the treaty of Alte Ceccato. The three stamps were designed using AI technology, with the original, digitally restored, painting serving as a background for the miniature sheet..

The three single stamps were printed in small sheetlets of 6 stamps of the same value, with the top and bottom borders decorated with the Musogradian flag. The miniature sheet is one of the largest ones ever issued by Posta tal Musograd, with 14 by 19cm.

Commemorative Issue "Constitution of Naquarnia"

FM2020-09 Constitution of Naquarnia"

Naquarnia, the southernmost member of the Federated Micronations, used to be a conservative and poor backwater. In the last few years, however, a cultural and political revival has taken place, culminating in a modernized constitution which, among many other things, introduced People's Assemblies whose members are drawn by lot. The new constitution of the Repubblika tal' Naquarnia, as it is now officially named, came into force on 2020.10.03, the 55th anniversary of the Treaty of Alte Ceccato, when the region joined the Musogradian Empire.

The stamp shows the Turre tal Gardia, overlooking the Murwillian coastline on the other side of the Murwillian Bay. The Turre is part of the fortifications which protected the Naquarnian east coast against pirates. The new flag of Naquarnia appears both on the stamp and the sheet border. The stamp was issued in sheets of six and sheets of 9 stamps.

  • Date of Issue: 2020.10.03
  • Free perforation, matt paper
  • Value: CW 2.00
  • Order No. FM202009 - stamp with lower or upper sheet border (CW 2.00)

State Definitive Issue "Naquarnian Views"

FM2020-10 Naquarnia State Definitives

In a similar design as the Constitution of Naquarnia issue, but in a smaller format, a series of 8 Naquarnian state definitives were issued, the first ones since the 2010 set. Like those two stamps, the new stamps show Naquarnian landscapes and display the new state flag. AI processing was used on the images. The stamps were printed in sheets of 4 by 4 stamps, with the new Naquarnian flag displayed on the top and bottom border fields. The value is displayed in Bit (B).

Commemorative Issue "Hutt River / First Nations"

FM2020-11 Hutt River - First Nations

The Federated Micronations have always had many connections to various nations on the continent of Australia. The first unilaterally recognized nation was the Hutt River Principality, located in western Australia. Musogradian corporations had close trade relationships with the HRP, and in 2008 a FM delegation visited the HRP and met Prince Leonard and Princess Shirley. With great sadness, the FM received the news of Prince Leonard's demise in 2019. On August 3, 2020 , the HRP government under Prince Graeme decided to capitulate under extreme financial and legal pressure of the Australian government, dissolving the Hutt River Principality and selling the lands to pay the debts. The first stamp of this issue is dedicated to the memory of Hutt River Principality. The stamp displays the government building / Post Office of Naim, the capital of the HRP, and the state flag.

Several PtM issues have been dedicated to artists or heroes of the Australian First Nations, but none yet to the First Nations themselves. The term "Aborigines" hides the fact that many distinct groups of people have lived in Australia for over 40'000 years, with their own languages, territories and, all too human, conflicts and strifes. Both the Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islands peoples now call for recognition in the Australian constitution, following the Uluru National Convention in 2017. The second stamp of this issue is dedicated to these nations, displaying the "Tent Embassy" in Canberra which existed over many years and which was visited by members of the First Expedition in 1993, and the official Aboriginal First Nations flag.

The stamp images were processed with AI technology and the stamps printed by yourstamps with a new printing system, from Kyocera. The greenish colour of the stamps is due to some initial colour settings issues with that printer. The stamps are designated as Air Mail issues and were printed in miniature sheets of 4 se-tenant stamp pairs, with matching border inscriptions. The picture of the mini sheet below is in a smaller scale than the stamps above.

Commemorative Issue "U.S. Presidential Elections"

FM2020-12 US Presidential Elections - Joe Biden Kamala Harris

Due to their importance for the whole world, the F.M. and Posta tal Musograd have a tradition to issue stamps on the event of US presidential elections. This time, it was felt that even more was at stake than in "normal" years, with a pandemic raging in many countries and with the time left to stop the climate crisis becoming uncontrollable not any more measured in decades, but in years.

The election of Joseph Biden and Kamala Harris by a wide majority of U.S. voters, although only a narrow majority in the all-important swing states, can be seen as a sign of hope. At the same time, the statements and actions of the current President, supported by large parts of his party and voters, makes one wonder if certain parts of the SDFM predictions on the Trump presidency still might become true.

Kamala Harris will be the first female Vice President in the history of the U.S., and maybe even the first female President. Therefore PtM decided to issue two stamps, showing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, as se-tenant pair in a chessboard pattern. The portraits (sourced from Wikipedia) were processed with AI technology.

  • Free perforation, matt paper

Commemorative Issue "Ludwig van Beethoven and Tilo Medek Anniversaries"

FM2020-13 - Composer Anniversaries - Beethoven and Medek

This stamp issue is dedicated to two composers, one world famous and much honoured, the other almost unknown even in musical circles. The first one, born 250 years ago, is Ludwig van Beethoven, whose symphonies, concerts and chamber music set the patterns for the following centuries of classical music. The second one, Tilo Medek (1940 - 2006), followed those patterns in his symphonies and concertos, distancing himself from radical modernism while displaying a very distinctive and personal sound in his compositions, many of which are still waiting to be published on recordings. Posta tal Musograd is honouring them both with this issue as both have played an important part in Musogradian cultural development.

The two stamps are issued as a se tenant pair, printed in small vertical fixed format. The design is based on pencil sketches with an added blue background. The respective anniversaries were translated into the stamp values. The sheet was printed in a chessboard pattern.

  • Date of Issue: 2020.11.29
  • Fixed perforation, matt paper
  • Values: CW 2.50 / 0.80
  • Order No. FM202013 - 2 se-tenant stamps (CW 3.30)
  • Order No. FM202013b4 - block of 4 se-tenant stamps (CW 6.60)

Commemorative Issue "Christmas 2020"

FM2020-14 - Christmas 2020

The Christmas issue of 2020 is based on a painting by a Musogradian artist, I. Neumärker. The painting shows a peaceful evening scene with a full moon and the sky filled with stars, watched by a mother and her child. You can also discover the orange-red planet Mars in the sky. The artist has already contributed to the stamp issues of Posta tal Musograd in 2009.

The stamp was issued in sheets of 5 by 6 stamps and in numbered small sheets containing 6 stamps each. Those are only available through a 2020 PtM year set, while stocks last.
